Planning - The 'P' Word

By far the most frequent question we are asked in our discussions with trade representatives; licensees; bar owners; General Managers and Committee members is..."Will I need planning?"

Smoking Canopy ltd have subsequently sought the opinion of a geographically wide range of Planning Authorities, and without exception their view is that irrespective of what solution is provided for smoking it WILL require planning permission. As a result of this question, and subsequent response Smoking Canopy Ltd have now decided to offer a Planning Application Service.

Therefore for a nominal fee of £650 will provide a full planning application service.

This includes:

  • Payment of all necessary Local Authority fees.
  • Payment of all necessary documentation; plans and maps, preparation and submission.
  • All appropriate form completion and submission.
  • Document and plans preparation/amendment.
  • Production of unique CAD generated view depicting the canopy in situ of the agreed location.
  • Acting as Agent on your behalf for matters relating to the application.

Please note that Smoking Canopy Ltd accept no responsibility for the decisions of any Local Authorities prior to, during or after any application is submitted. The decision to apply for planning permission is therefore entirely the outlet controller's. It is Smoking Canopy Ltd's intention to seek to harmoniously work with all local authorities to positively promote the choice offered by outlets, who offer a quality solution, for smokers and non-smokers alike, whilst conforming to all legalislative requirements.

Smoking Canopy Ltd have already worked with a number of local authorities for which planning permissions have been granted and have been impressed with their understanding and approach of the significant impact that the Smoking Ban is going to have upon the trade. These authorities include:

  • Sedgemoor District Council
  • Torvine District Council (Wales)
